Anyone who experiences bloating, discomfort and pain associated with gas as a result of eating vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, grains or cereals can be described as being Complex Carbohydrate Intolerant. Yet Complex Carbohydrate Intolerance may demonstrate symptoms that are similar to other gas-related conditions. So how can you tell whether you have CCI or another gas related problem? Use the guide below to help you determine the cause of your symptoms and how to treat them.1-2

Symptoms
Activity Prior to Experiencing Symptoms
Likely Cause
- Bloating

- Abdominal discomfort, including pain and pressure

- A "rumbling" feeling

- A lot of flatulence or having the need to pass gas

Consuming foods such as beans, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower or other vegetables, seeds, nuts or whole grains.

Complex Carboydrate Intolerance
- Bloating

- Abdominal discomfort, including pain and pressure

- A "rumbling" feeling

- A lot of flatulence or having the need to pass gas

- Diarrhea

Consuming dairy products

Lactose Intolerance
- Stomach (not the intestine) feels bloated or overfull

- Burping or the need to burp

- The need to flatulate

- Drinking carbonated beverages

- Eating too fast

- Eating chewing gum or hard candy
